HENRI MATISSE / ROBERT MOTHERWELL
Etchings Aquatints Lithographs Linocuts Woodcuts

It is with great pleasure that Annandale Galleries is able to bring you this exhibition of two of the Titans of Modern Art in our first exhibition in over ten years of modernist masters. There are over twenty works by each artist, with Matisse in the front gallery and Motherwell in the large gallery upstairs. HENRI MATISSE’S (1869 – 1954) influence on art is so pervasive one might compare it to oxygen: we breathe without thought, but cannot live without it. His work remains a building block of contemporary art, affecting the work of artists to this day, whether consciously or subliminally. ROBERT MOTHERWELL (1915 – 1991) was a young man at the outset of Abstract Expressionism in the mid-late forties but through his writings and widespread knowledge of art history, he soon became an (unofficial) spokesperson for the Abstract Expressionists, also allowing him to contextualise his own place in the continuum. Do not miss this rare opportunity in Australia to experience exhibitions of original graphics by HENRI MATISSE and ROBERT MOTHERWELL.
