Robert Motherwell

"Robert Motherwell was by far the most intellectual and articulate of the abstract expressionists"
- Mary Ann Caws "ROBERT MOTHERWELL - With Pen and Brush"

Robert Motherwell (b. USA 1915 - died 1991) was one of the true titans of twentieth century American painting and a contemporary of Jackson Pollock, Willem De Kooning and Mark Rothko. He began by playing a major role on the so called 'Triumph of American Painting' in the 1950s and went on to produce a varied and influential oeuvre. Despite his vast influence on art and artist in Australia, Annandale Galleries is proud to present the first major exhibition of original works to our knowledge in this country.
